DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES: The Early Head Start Home Visitor assists families in identifying family resources and needs.  Works with families and children on a weekly basis and encourages the family’s achievement of self-sufficiency. Facilitates parent education and socialization groups. Maintains confidentiality of family records and information. Participates in all appropriate training and meetings. Promotes parent attendance at parent meetings, transporting them when necessary. Integrates all Early Head Start components during home visits. Works with parents to develop weekly home visit and weekly activity plans based on each child’s assessment and identified family needs. Assists parents in developing and fostering healthy self-concepts for themselves, and assists parents in becoming the primary family educators. Fosters the belief in parents that they are their child’s first teacher and reinforces this concept with practical suggestions for its development. Assists in coordinating community services such as family planning, food stamps, employment, health services, vocational rehabilitation, psychological services, etc. Provides crisis management when needed. Assists with situations such as homelessness, need of food, disconnection of utilities, etc. Assists parents in developing ways of using household resources in educational activities with their children. Conducts health checks on each home visit. Conducts developmental screenings and intake visits for new referrals as assigned. Certifies eligibility of all families through application process. Assesses family’s concerns, priorities, and resources during screening and intake visit. Ensures completion of Family Partnership Agreement (FPA).Monitors progress of goals in FPA. Assists pregnant women to access comprehensive prenatal and postpartum care. Provides education to pregnant women on fetal development, labor and delivery, postpartum recovery and the benefits of breast feeding.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Family Advocate Child Development Associate, Associate’s in Early Childhood Education or related field. Previous experience providing direct services to young children and low-income families. Knowledge and experience in child development and early childhood education.  Knowledge of community resources. Experience linking families with appropriate agencies and services.

 

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:  Bachelor of Science degree in Adult Education, Early Childhood Education, Home Economics, Human Development, or a related field. Experience working with Head Start or Early Head Start.
