The Children's Center Endowment
The Board
of Director’s of the Children’s Center has established a long-term
endowment
with The Hampton Roads Community Foundation (formerly the Norfolk
Foundation). The Children’s Center is the 20th
organizational endowment managed by The Hampton Roads Community
Foundation, a
regional community foundation serving Southeastern Virginia
“The
Hampton Roads Community Foundation applauds the Children’s Center for
focusing on its
future by
creating an endowment to benefit the Center’s children,” said Angelica
D.
Light, President and CEO of The Norfolk Foundation.
“Establishing an
endowment is a sign that the Center is planning for its long-term
ability to
serve the children and families of Franklin, Southampton County, Isle
of Wight
County, and Suffolk.”
The
Children’s Center and the Hampton Roads Community Foundation have a
history dating back
to 1991
when the Foundation awarded the Children’s Center a $60,000 grant to
expand its
services in Franklin. The Hampton Roads Community Foundation has since
awarded grants
to the
Children’s Center for expansion of the Suffolk Center and to the Early
Head
Start building at 507 Second Avenue in Franklin.
“When we
began the Center in 1983 I could not have imagined that we would be
taking this
significant step 25 years later.” said Barbara Mease, the Children’s
Center
founder and Executive Director for the past 25 years. “I am proud of
what the
Children’s Center has accomplished and I am pleased that our Board has
the
vision to look forward.”
The Hampton Roads Community
Foundation is a regional community foundation started in 1950. It is Southeastern Virginia’s largest grant and
scholarship provider. Since
1950 the Foundation has awarded more than $97 million in grants and
scholarships, including more than $8 million in 2007.
You can contribute to
the Children's Center's Endowment in any amount at any time. There are
currently two ways to donate:
1. By check, which can
be mailed to: 700 Campbell Avenue, Franklin, VA 23851. Please include
"endowment donation" as an identifier on the check.
2. By debit card or
credit card at the Texie Camp Marks Children's Center, 700 Campbell
Avenue in Franklin, or the Suffolk Children's Center, 300 Executive
Court , Suffolk.
The Children's Center
is working on making online donations a possibility in the near future.
