WORKING TITLE:  Part Time/Full Time Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist              

 

SALARY RANGE:  $36,449-57,491

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides early childhood mental health consultation (ECMHC) services to help adults nurture the social and emotional development of children ages birth through 36 months in enrolled regulated and unregulated child care and to improve the quality of care across settings.  Adheres to and assures compliance with all program standards: Part C of IDEA, Head Start Performance Standards and the Head Start Act, Virginia Licensing Standards, and other standards as identified from time to time. Participates in program implementation and reporting, in Children’s Center programs. Participates on the ABC Project team and collaborates with the Early Head Start team, the Pediatric Rehabilitation team and the Early Care and Education teams. Assures the identification of Part C eligible children Assures mental health participation, as needed, on multidisciplinary IFSP teams. Closely collaborates with early care and education providers to integrate the ABC Project within early care and education settings in the community. Heightens community awareness of the social emotional needs of young children in early care and education settings. Provides consultation and supervision as part of a child or program referral on certain elements of an early care and education program to address specific issues that affect one or more children, staff member and/or family. Assures confidentiality of children, families, and co-workers. Maintains a safe, healthy, clean and orderly work environment. Any other duties, as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology or related field. Minimum of two years working in the mental health and/or early education field. Experience working with families, Early Care and Education systems, and reflective supervision. A general knowledge of child development and assessment, infant and toddler mental health, early care and education settings, community resources, and evidence-based practices related to infant and toddler mental health.  Must be able to build relationships and motivate providers and parents. Must demonstrate familiarity with ethnic background of clients and be able to serve and effectively communicate with children, families, co-workers, and the public .Must demonstrate maturity and a high level of energy. Must be able to perform basic computer applications using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) and Time Clock software. Must be able to communicate through company email using Outlook. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:  Licensure preferred.  Experience providing training, consultation, and observation.
